addition of the primary school Seiersberg in Graz
The building of the primary school had 14 classrooms and required expansion. Four classrooms had to be added to cater for the demands of all-day schooling, plus a library and a second gym. The municipality took the opportunity to turn the gym into a triple sports and event hall with a stage and to integrate the community’s library in the school building. The existing building was characterised by different building stages. One objective of the expansion project was to make a new ensemble out of the individual structural elements while focusing on easy orientation and good functionality. The new entrance on the eastern side of the building is immediately visible when you approach the building. The new forecourt opens up to both the school and the new sports and events hall. The public library is prominently located next to the entrance. The extended classroom wings “float” linearly above it. Opposite the wing with the classrooms, the new sports and event hall (incorporating the old gym) forms a sports axis that can also be used when the school is closed. The annex and event hall are reference projects for timber structures.
